The principal barriers for those who need or want to learn English are, undoubtedly, aural comprehension and fluency. The Gateway methodology focuses on these two points, which are, in fact, complementary and in the communication process.
The central objective of BSB is to awaken in students the perception of how the sound of English works: the phonemes, the unpronounced letters, the intonation, the syllables etc. These are the points that hamper learning. Many students are able to express themselves, have the necessary vocabulary, know the grammar... and yet still feel "lost" when faced with the need for longer conversations. What is missing? Fluency.
Fluency is a question of rhythm. It is a question of naturalness. Fluency means being able to speak in a natural rhythm. It is not a question of grammar or vocabulary but of breaking the sound barrier. When students succeed in overcoming this obstacle, they are truly able to communicate in English with competency and security.
BSB – Breaking the Sound Barrier – is flexible and allows Gateway to develop courses to meet the interests and objectives of each group. For this reason, we do not work with standardized teaching materials with all our groups. Part of our task is to research books suitable for each student needs. This brings the classroom must closer to the reality and goals of the students.
Our classes are expositive, interactive and illustrated with various materials such as songs, films and other didactically strategic items, as well as frequent activities that students may also study alone.
Through its innovative method, Gateway English School develops confident, flexible, creative communicators who recognize the importance of re-evaluating one's values and concepts when faced with learning a new language. In this way, students are able to focus attention on different types of information and, thus build new cerebral connexions that, in turn, lead to more efficient and efficacious learning that is not lost once assimilated.
With considerable experience in teaching, our professors are skilled at recognizing the abilities, aptitudes and interests of each student and, thus, direct the courses to the real interests of the group, in an environment favourable to learning.
They are highly qualified professionals, trained in the United Kingdom and the United States who are constantly updating their abilities through courses, workshops and trips to English-speaking countries.
